Snow derailment problems continue

Train services between Inverness and Aviemore continue to be disrupted after a freight train was derailed at Carrbridge station.

ScotRail said buses would carry passengers between Inverness and Aviemore until the line was cleared.

The Inverness-London sleeper has also been rerouted via Aberdeen resulting in a longer journey time, the railway company said.

The incident happened shortly after 1605 GMT on Monday.

The train had two people on board. Northern Constabulary said one person sustained minor injuries and was treated at the scene.

British Transport Police and fire and ambulance crews were called to the scene.

The locomotive was hauling eight bogies. Part of the train landed in a garden crushing a shed.

The cause of the accident is still being investigated.

It is not yet known when engineers will be able to clear the line.

The Rail Accident Investigation Branch (RAIB) said its inspectors were at the scene.

A spokesman said it was too early to say what the cause of the accident was.

Eyewitness Linda Hanshaw was clearing snow off her car outside her home near the station.

Fearing the train would slide close by, she ran into her house.

She added: "I don't know if there was something wrong with the engine, or if it was something to do with the ice."
