The Stone House will be one of the designs to feature |
The main avenue of a site showcasing innovative house designs could become a "drag strip" for speeding motorists, a community council has claimed. Permission is being sought for the lay-out, street lighting and landscaping of the Highland Housing Fair site at Balvonie, Inverness.
However, Inverness South Community Council has objected to the plan.
It has called for traffic calming measures and expressed concern about the safety of the drainage system.
The community council said the main avenue could become a "drag strip" because it will be so straight.
It has also said swales - shallow channels which have been proposed to drain surface water to two ponds - will have to be designed so they do not pose a risk to children.
Highland Council's Inverness, Nairn, Badenoch and Strathspey planning applications committee will be asked to approve the plot and site lay-outs, footpaths, landscaping, tree planting, street lights and surface water drainage on Tuesday.
A report by officials to the meeting said the community council's concerns have been addressed.
It also said the application will not require referral to Scottish Ministers because the application fits the terms of the outline planning permission granted in May last year.
Raise standards
The housing fair is the first of its kind in the UK and is based on similar events in Finland.
A competition was held to encourage ground-breaking designs and drew interest from all over the world.
Architects and developers from Invergordon, Skye, Aberdeen, Dundee and Glasgow were among the successful entrants.
Firms were invited to buy plots on 27 plots at the 5.5 hectare (13.5 acre) site and build their design.
The contest was run by the Royal Incorporation of Architects in Scotland (RIAS) to raise standards in innovative and "green" housing.
