Plea to plug a major water loss
Scottish Water is appealing for help after discovering 6,000 litres of water - the equivalent of 75 baths - is being lost every hour in Sutherland.

The local water treatment works normally produces between 2,000 and 3,000 litres an hour, but usage soared before Christmas.

After ruling out a major burst, the authority believes people in the Lairg area are leaving taps running.

It said customers may have been tempted to do this to prevent pipes freezing.
