Shoppers in a Highland town will be offered bags made of paper or compostable cornstarch in an effort to reduce plastic waste.

The Ullapool's Cottoned On campaign was put together by Ross-shire Waste Action Network and Ullapool Tourist and Business Association.

According to the groups, the town's estimated plastic bag consumption is about 300,000 every year.

The offer of alternative bags runs with a voluntary ban on free plastic ones.
