The A9 has been closed southbound in the Black Isle after a serious road crash, police said. The emergency services were called to the incident, midway between Tore and Kessock, on Friday evening.
It is understood a motorcycle was involved in the original incident and several more vehicles collided as they approached the scene.
Northern Constabulary said the southbound carriageway would be closed for several hours.
Traffic has been diverted via Muir of Ord and Beauly.
The northbound carriageway remained open, but traffic was said to be very slow moving.
