 Inverness has seen visits increase by 10% |
A rise in visits to Inverness by tourists from overseas has made the city the 15th most popular in the UK, according to new statistics. The number of international visitors to the Highland capital grew by 10% to more than 250,000 in 2006, according to the Office of National Statistics.
London is the most popular city with tourists followed by Edinburgh. Glasgow is fifth and Aberdeen 19th.
Tourism body VisitScotland welcomed the increase for Inverness.
Scott Armstrong, VisitScotland's Highland area director, said: "This is fantastic news for Inverness.
"The city is the ideal location for international visitors giving them the perfect mix of a new and vibrant city and set within the stunning landscape of the Highlands."
