A road gritter on the A9 - one of the key routes included in the strategy |
A strategy aimed at improving road, rail, air and ferry links to and from the Highlands and Islands has been agreed by a statutory transport body. Highlands and Islands Transport Partnership in Scotland (Hitrans) said the document outlined proposals for the next 15 years.
Chairman Charlie King said it included upgrades to the A9, A96 and Inverness-Edinburgh rail line.
The first phase of improvements would cost 168m.
The strategy will be presented to MSPs for approval.
