Camcal was involved in the Beatrice experiment |
An MSP has voiced confidence that a buyer can be found for a renewable energy firm in the Western Isles that has gone into administration. Labour Western Isles MSP Alasdair Morrison said he believes an operator will be found for the Arnish yard.
A Dutch/Swiss consortium has confirmed that it is interested in taking over the Stornoway site.
Mr Morrison said that private investors had lost the most due to the yard's severe financial problems.
Camcal delivered three main tubular sections for wave machines in Portugal and provided two towers for an experimental wind farm in the Beatrice field.
Disappointed chairman James McCallum hinted at the irony of a "green" energy business going into administration amid a drive for environmentally-friendly power.
He said: "Despite our best efforts over the past few weeks we have been unsuccessful in finding a buyer and it is with regret that the directors have today placed Camcal into administration."
At its height the yard employed about 100 workers but is now operated on a care and maintenance basis.
