Finnie quizzed on SNH relocation

Rural Development Minister Ross Finnie has been called to give evidence to Holyrood's audit committee on the relocation of civil service jobs.

It is the first time the committee has called a minister.

MSPs want to speak to Mr Finnie about his decision on the relocation of Scottish Natural Heritage (SNH) from Edinburgh to Inverness.

The agency's move to its new home at Great Glen House was criticised by unions and MSPs.

Usually committee members quiz officials but they have decided on this step because the government over-ruled civil service advice.

The first minister defended the policy of moving jobs out of Edinburgh as he opened SNH's new headquarters earlier this month.

Jack McConnell said the move was good for jobs and devolution.

Unions said only 55 staff made the switch with 109 opting for redundancy. Great Glen House is also a base for the Deer Commission for Scotland.
