Pupils flocked to the safety exercise organised by emergency services |
Primary seven pupils donned "beer goggles" during a major safety awareness initiative staged by emergency services in the Highlands. More than 330 youngsters from schools throughout Caithness and north Sutherland took part in the Safe Highlander project.
Pupils tried on special goggles designed to show how alcohol can dull and distort the senses.
The event was held at the public exhibition centre at Dounreay.
Youngsters also watched accident scenarios and got advice on dealing with emergencies.
Drug awareness
The event was staged within the centre and tents were staffed by coastguard, fire, police and Red Cross personnel.
Also present were farm safety experts from the Health and Safety Executive and officers of the British Transport Police.
The sessions also included a focus on crime prevention and alcohol and drug awareness.
