Motorists can log on to Twitter and sign up for regular updates |
Drivers will be warned of delays on a section of Scotland's busiest motorway on the micro-blogging website, Twitter. A £4.4m upgrade of the M8 between between junction 5 Shotts and junction 6 Newhouse is due begin on 14 August. Roadworks are expected to cause some delays as the eastbound carriageway is resurfaced. But Transport Scotland is hoping regular "tweets" updating motorists will help them plan their journeys and minimise disruption. Eddie Ross, of trunk road operator Bear Scotland, said: "With so many vehicles a day using this route it is important that we keep road users aware of the forthcoming upgrade works. "That is why we are launching our Twitter page for these particular works and we would encourage people to use this, as well as other sites, such Traffic Scotland, which give 24/7 journey planning advice across the whole network."
