Children in Need grants awarded

A total of �20,991,216 was raised during the television appeal

Disadvantaged children are to benefit from £2.3m of Children in Need cash awarded to projects in Scotland.

A total of 80 organisations, including Maggie's Cancer Centres in Edinburgh, Glasgow and Dundee, have been given grants.

Since the appeal night last November, the BBC charity has received thousands of applications for funding.

Across the UK, £14.8m has been awarded to help improve the lives of 96,000 youngsters.

A record-breaking total of £20,991,216 was raised during the television appeal.

Since then additional donations have come from fundraisers, schools and businesses from all across the UK.

Tomorrow's People in Glasgow, a charity that supports vulnerable young people by helping them turn their life around and gain employment and training, was among those to be awarded a grant in this first round of funding.

The Children in Need cash will also help another Glasgow group, Cosgrove Care, run a summer activities programme for children and young people with complex needs and disabilities.

David Ramsden, Chief Executive of BBC Children in Need said: "Our Appeal income so far stands at £36 million, which is level with last year and a testament to the generosity and commitment of everyone who got involved, even in these difficult times.

"We are overwhelmed by the support, and the money raised is now making a real difference to many young lives."
