Flexible Ducting manufactures hosepipe components |
Talks aimed at saving almost 90 skilled jobs at a factory which makes parts for Dyson cleaners have collapsed, a union has announced. Unite said 89 jobs would now be lost at the Flexible Ducting plant in Milngavie, near Glasgow. The company said in November that production at the facility would be scaled back and then end completely by July, with work relocated to Malaysia. Unite had put forward an alternative business plan aimed at saving jobs. The union said the losses were a "hammer blow" for skilled manufacturing in Scotland. Regional officer Tony Devlin said: "We've worked extremely hard to put together a viable business plan that would save jobs and production at the plant. "Regrettably, it was not to be as a deal could not be reached with management despite our best efforts."
