North Lanarkshire council house tenants who are waiting for repairs and heating system upgrades will see the work done quicker than planned. The local authority has earmarked almost �2m worth of extra funding to boost its housing repair programme. The money is part of a surplus identified in a mid-year review of the council's housing revenue budget. About �1m will be used for heating installations and electrical rewires and �800,000 will be pay for repairs. Efficient collection Cllr Barry McCulloch, housing and social work services convener, said: "Good financial management is vital in ensuring the effective delivery of our services. "It is great news that the council has made significant savings by letting its houses quicker and being more efficient in collecting rental payments. "What's even better is that tenants are benefiting from this as the additional funding is being ploughed into services to maintain and enhance council houses." North Lanarkshire council recorded an accumulated surplus of �4m in the housing budget. Additional money has also been earmarked to pay for increased fuel bills, to progress the council's new house build programme, roll out its new allocation policy and develop a Common Housing Register.
