Dangerous toys withdrawn by shops

Anyone who has bought these toys is asked to contact trading standards

Several toys have been withdrawn from sale after failing safety tests carried out by trading standards officials in East Renfrewshire.

The small dolls and pen-top figures had a 60% failure rate in tests which examined the standard levels of play that toys receive from children.

The failures covered concerns like choking hazard and sharp points.

Local people have been advised to contact trading standards officers if they have purchased the toys.

Julie McCarron, of the council's trading standards service, said: "The labelling on these pencil top toys was inadequate and it had plastered over it the words 'This is not a toy'.

"But on any level these are clearly toys and need to conform to safety tests."
