Sea lock failure on Crinan Canal

The cill on the Crinan Canal sea lock failed over the weekend

The Crinan Canal is closed to through transit after the cill on the sea lock failed over the weekend.

British Waterways Scotland said divers carried out an inspection on Monday and the sea lock would be closed until further notice.

The BBC Scotland news website understands that the concrete cill gave way on Sunday afternoon.

The lock allows boats to enter into Loch Crinan. The structure dates back to the 1930s.
