The Mackintosh building is receiving an 8.7m makeover |
Three buildings in the Glasgow School of Art (GSA) campus are to be replaced in a major redevelopment. The Scottish Funding Council (SFC) said it was prepared to commit up to 50m to the project and look at the case for other phases of work. Conservation and refurbishment work is already underway on GSA's world-famous Mackintosh building. The 8.7m makeover will restore the iconic structure to Charles Rennie Mackintosh's original design. SFC chair, John McClelland, said: "The Glasgow School of Art provides Scotland with the creative industry entrepreneurs of tomorrow. "The redevelopment project will ensure that its students and staff are working in the right environment to ensure success. "The first phase will enhance the area opposite the Macintosh building improving the setting for one of Scotland's finest architectural achievements."
