The alarm system aims to aid prosecution in abuse cases |
Police in West Dunbartonshire have launched a project to protect victims of domestic abuse from their partners. The initiative provides victims with a link to the police via a Domestic Incident Alarm (Dial) system.
Alarms are installed in homes where victims have been abused and do not live with their partner.
Pc Marcelline Kerr said: "This aims to offer a sense of security and peace of mind at a time when victims feel most isolated and vulnerable."
When an alarm is activated by the victim, a signal is sent to Hanover Telecare's 24 hour call centre, where the call is recorded and an emergency call is forwarded to the police for an immediate response.
PC Kerr added: "In many cases there is no independent witness to victims of domestic abuse and the recordings from these units could be used as evidence in any court proceedings."
Trained officers from the community safety department at Dumbarton and Clydebank fit the alarm.
Dial currently operates in Inverclyde, Renfrew and parts of Ayrshire.
