MRSA has affected two separate hospital wards |
Five hospital patients in the west of Scotland have been infected by the superbug MRSA, health bosses have said. NHS Greater Glasgow and Clyde said two wards where they are being treated have been closed to new admissions.
Two of the patients are in the Intensive Therapy Unit at Inverclyde Royal Hospital.
The other three are in Glasgow's Southern General Hospital, and are not said to be giving any cause for concern as a result of the infection.
In a statement, the health board said: "Contingency plans are in place for any patient who would normally be admitted to the unit to be transferred to other units in nearby hospitals."
Infection control precautions are in place at both wards, the board also said.
The infection is only the latest in a number of outbreaks in Greater Glasgow and Clyde which have forced wards to close to new admissions.
Two weeks ago, the Clostridium Difficile (C Diff) bug infected six patients at Glasgow's Victoria Infirmary.
Last month, 24 patients were hit by a bug at the Southern General Hospital in Glasgow.
