More wards affected by winter bug
Hairmyres Hospital
15 wards at Hairmyres are closed to new admissions
The majority of wards at a Lanarkshire hospital have been closed to new admissions after an outbreak of the winter vomiting bug.

NHS Lanarkshire said it was investigating 147 cases of sickness and diarrhoea among patients and staff at Hairmyres Hospital in East Kilbride.

A total of 15 wards out of 22 wards have been affected and doctors have been referring new patients elsewhere.

Initial test results suggested the Norovirus infection.

NHS Lanarkshire said the virus occurs in the community as well as in hospitals, and in a number of cases people will have acquired the infection in the community before being admitted.

Infection control measures have been put in place to manage the spread of the illness.
