A memorial service to recognise the bravery of servicemen who attained the nation's highest military award has been held by Glasgow City Council. The service took place in Glasgow Cathedral to coincide with the 150th anniversary of the Victoria Cross.
It was followed by the unveiling of a new memorial stone at the city's Necropolis.
The 4ft 6in memorial is made of grey granite and embellished with a gold leaf depicting a Victoria Cross.
Glasgow lord provost Councillor Robert Winter said: "I'm deeply honoured that the local servicemen who fought are being remembered in this way.
"The city owes them a huge debt which must never be forgotten."
The VC was first awarded in 1857 for acts of valour in the Crimean War.
It has since been awarded to more than 1,300 recipients but just 14 medals have been awarded since the end of World War II.
