One of Scotland's oldest universities has launched a new project, profiling the history of the institution. The University of Glasgow Story on the internet tells of the men and women who have made significant contributions to its development and progress.
It contains biographies of employees, graduates, academics and benefactors such as James Watt and Donald Dewar.
They have been linked to features of the university, founded in 1451, which have been named in their honour.
Glasgow University principal Sir Muir Russell said the institution had flourished as a result of more than 550 years of innovation.

"This has depended on men and women of quality and vision who have committed their talents to the university," he said.
"Those who have made a contribution to the University of Glasgow Story will be found within these pages."

The project has laid bare a number of interesting facts about the university, including that the philosopher Adam Smith lived with his mother in Professors' Court and that the principal had his own brew house in the basement of a house at the Old College.
It also tells how, in 1929, the university football team defeated the Icelandic national team 3-1 in Reykjavik.
It is hoped the next step will be to capture the university community's memories of World War II.
"These will be published on the website alongside the Roll of Honour of the men and women who died in service," said project director Moira Rankin.
"We'd like to hear from anyone who was around the university at that time - students, local residents or anyone with something to share."
