The officials have been given a tour of Glasgow venues

The 12 visitors, from countries such as Australia, Papua New Guinea and Fiji are the first Commonwealth Games Federation members to visit the city.

Don Stockins, vice president of the Australian CGA, said Glasgow's bid looked "very promising".

A final decision on the venue will be made in November.

Tiki Matap, president of the Cook Islands Commonwealth Games Association (CGA), said the city's preparations were already at an advanced stage.

At a tour of the Scottish Exhibition and Conference Centre, he said: "I am very impressed."

But the visitors seemed less enthusiastic about the rival bid from Abuja in Nigeria.

Mr Matap said contact with the Nigerian capital's team had been scarce, and he had not even received a document outlining the city's bid.

"I am just disappointed at this time," he said. "Communication with them has been really low."

He explained how an official from Nigeria had been sent to intercept the delegates in Glasgow.

The issue of security was also raised in the wake of the recent terrorist attack at Glasgow Airport.
