By-laws will come into effect on Loch Lomond in May
Curbs on the use of sea scooters at a national park are to be extended.

The area of Loch Lomond covered by an 11kph (6.8mph) speed limit is to be extended from 22% to 30% of the loch from May.

The Scottish Executive said the extension was intended to "enhance quiet enjoyment and improve safety".

The by-laws also raise from 14 to 16 the minimum age for using a high-powered craft and provide for the compulsory carrying of life-jackets.

Loch Lomond national park authority convener, Dr Mike Cantlay, said: "We will step up enforcement in key areas, with the introduction of our new patrol boat in April.

"We also hope to have the police joining our rangers on patrol again this year.

"We will do all we can to raise awareness amongst loch users about the changes during the lead-in period."

The moves were announced by Deputy Environment Minister Sarah Boyack who also approved management plans for Scotland's two national parks - Loch Lomond and the Trossachs, and the Cairngorms.
