 Lightbody's bakery was set up in Hamilton 122 years ago |
A family bakery is to be sold for �37.5m, more than 120 years after it opened in Lanarkshire. Finsbury Food Group has agreed to buy Hamilton-based Lightbody.
The family bakery, opened in 1885, makes specialist seasonal and novelty celebration cakes and has annual sales of �50m.
Managing director Martin Lightbody, 43, said: "The proposed acquisition marks another major milestone in the history of our company."
Mr Lightbody, the fourth generation of the family to work at the business, sold off shops in 1995 to concentrate on celebration cakes.

He added: "Whilst it will be business as usual at Lightbody, we are attracted by the significant benefits that we believe will be delivered as part of the enlarged group."
Lightbody operates from two bakeries in Hamilton and a depot in Rennes, France.
It makes celebration cakes including seasonal, novelty and licensed character cakes.
Their current range features products made under licence from Disney and Thorntons, among others.
Mr Lightbody will join the board of directors of the enlarged group as executive director.
