Weight management services are being established to tackle obesity

The Royal Infirmary's weight management programme was set up two years ago, and now treats more than a 1,000 patients each year.

It offers support and advice to people whose health is at risk due to obesity.

Doctors said the �600,000 service was value for money when compared with the long term costs of ill-health.

One in five adults in Scotland is now clinically obese, and the figure is expected to rise.
