The call centre beat off competition from around the world
A call centre in Clydebank has been named the best in the world.

The Clydesdale Bank centre received the award at a glittering event in Las Vegas.

The bank beat off competition from Canada and India to take the best contact centre of the year employing more than 250 people category.

First Minister Jack McConnell said: "This is wonderful news - not only for Clydesdale Bank but the whole of the Scottish call centre industry."

The Contact Centre World Awards took place on Wednesday night.

In September, the Clydebank centre finished ahead of 400 entrants in the regional award, which covers Europe, the Middle East and Africa, to reach the final.

Kevin Page, Clydesdale Bank's head of contact centres, said: "I'm delighted to see the efforts of our staff recognised in this way."

The centre, based at Mariner Court, Clydebank Business Park, employs 400 people to deal with enquiries from customers across the UK.

The bank announced a 1m investment for the site which will see the workforce expand to more than 1,000.
