An East Renfrewshire primary has been named as Scotland's best mainstream school by inspectors. Our Lady of the Missions in Thornliebank, which has 664 pupils, has broken all records for reports issued by HM Inspectorate of Education.
It has been judged excellent on nine of the 15 yardsticks for assessing how well a school performs.
The childrens' progress in maths and English was singled out, as was the school's relationship with parents.
Inspectors praised the primary school's "climate of equality, fairness and high expectations".
It also won plaudits for its strong identity as a Catholic school, its ethos and its highly-motivated pupils.
'Aiming high'
Headteacher Charlie Jamieson's "effective management and leadership" was highlighted by inspectors.
He said: "No Scottish primary or secondary has achieved nine 'excellents'.
"The report is a tribute to the hard work and commitment of all of our pupils, staff, parents, parish priests and education department staff.
"There's no secret to our success, just hard work and commitment by everyone involved to aiming high and meeting the needs of each and every one of our pupils."
East Renfrewshire Council's education convener, Councillor Mary Montague said: "I know that Our Lady of the Missions will go from strength to strength with this seal of approval for what it's doing in its own mission to deliver education of the very highest quality within the context of a highly-effective faith school."
