Family plea over gunpoint kidnap
Javed Mukhtar
Javed Mukhtar was taken from his home
The son of a 58-year-old man who was abducted by three men in Glasgow has made an emotional appeal.

Rizwad Javed urged those responsible to release his father as soon as possible.

Javed Mukhtar was praying with other members of his family when three masked men took him from his home on Friday. A gun was fired, but no-one was hurt.

The shop-owner is not thought to have been involved in any criminal activity and police said the abduction may be a case of mistaken identity.

Rizwad Javed said: "My father, Javed has now been missing for some hours and during that time we have had no contact from him.

"He is a loving father and we are obviously all devastated by this. It is an extremely traumatic time for our family.

We urge the people who abducted him - please release him and let him go back home to the warmth of his family
Det Supt Willie Prendergast

"He became a grandfather only three weeks ago and has barely had a chance to get to know his granddaughter."

The family are extremely worried for Mr Mukhtar's welfare.

He is a diabetic and had been fasting for the Muslim festival of Ramadan.

Strathclyde Police said he was last seen being bundled into a small white van.

Detective Superintendent Willie Prendergast said they had no leads as to where Mr Mukhtar had been taken.

"We are very keen to find out where Mr Mukhtar is and get him reunited with his family as quickly as possible and to make sure he is safe and well," he said.

"We urge the people who abducted him - please release him and let him go back home to the warmth of his family.

"He hasn't got to know the new baby in the family - a very nice family, a united family, they are absolutely distraught."
