Hundreds of young seabirds have been found dead or dying through lack of food, the Royal Society for the Protection of Birds has said. It said that those found were mainly common Guillemots.
Some of the birds were found miles inland in the centre of Glasgow and in west coast lochs, away from their usual feeding grounds.
The RSPB said the birds may be coming inland in search of food. An investigation is under way.
Over-fishing and global warming are thought to have been affecting the birds' normal food supply.
