Anti-social element face park ban
No vandalism, no dog fouling and no ball games - generic
The initiative will tackle disorder, littering and vandalism in parks
Drunken gangs, vandals, litter louts and beggars could be banned from Glasgow's parks for up to one year in a crack down on anti-social behaviour.

Strathclyde Police and Glasgow City Council have teamed up to tackle persistent offenders after complaints from members of the public.

Those involved in repeatedly causing problems in parks face an exclusion order of up to 12 months.

The tough approach follows concerns about safety in Kelvingrove Park.

Bans will also be enforced in open spaces including George Square in the city centre.

'Criminal charges'

Supt Fiona McPherson said: "We want to ensure parks are safe and that people can use them without fear of intimidation.

"For too long now some parks have been blighted by gang fighting, drinking, litter, minor assault, breach of the peace, vandalism and begging."

Park rangers are receiving training in conflict management and evidence gathering techniques.

Councillor Aileen Colleran, executive member of parks and facilities, said: "This is a major step forward in tackling anti-social behaviour.

"If people don't modify their behaviour, they face exclusion from a park, while further infringements would lead to criminal charges."

Moves to enforce the first exclusion order are under way.

A 30-year-old man will be served an exclusion order banning him from a city centre park.

Other orders are being considered.
