Dental service for city homeless
A dental service which serves homeless people is being officially launched on Thursday.

The service employs two dentists and support staff to provide a dedicated practice for Glasgow's homeless.

NHS Greater Glasgow and Clyde will operate the service, which it described as "pioneering", from a range of venues across the city.

Research shows homeless people have high levels of tooth decay and about 30% no longer have their own teeth.

Shelter Scotland welcomed the new service.

Director Archie Stoddart said: "Anyone can struggle to get an NHS dentist these days - it doesn't have to be someone who is homeless.

"But we do find that street homeless, or people living in temporary accommodation can find it hard to get access to a range of medical services, including dentists, doctors and even pharmacies.

"We would welcome any service that ensured homeless people can access healthcare."
