A 12.3m project to transform Scotland's fifth busiest rail, subway and bus station has entered the demolition phase.

Partick Station, which is remaining open during the work, will be transformed into "a state-of-the-art public transport interchange".

More than four million passengers use the station each year.

Rebuilding work began last November and is expected to be finished by spring 2007.

Strathclyde Partnership for Transport Chair Alistair Watson said: "It is a critical link in the city's transport infrastructure.

"This is a challenging project as we've had to create a building site in a busy urban location and at the same time continue to operate a station running normal services."
