'Mark's law' appeal heard by MSPs
Margaret Ann Cummings

A mother's plea for a review of the way convicted sex offenders are dealt with could be heard by an ad-hoc committee of MSPs.

Margaret Ann Cummings wants parents and carers to be told how many registered sex offenders live in their area.

Her eight-year-old son Mark was killed two years ago by convicted sex offender Stuart Leggate in Glasgow.

The Justice 2 Committee is to consult with other committee MSPs on how to deal with the issue.

Leggate, 28, was sentenced to a minimum 20 years imprisonment.

"Mark's Law" also calls for special courts to deal with paedophiles and asks for a review of where sex offenders are housed.

MSPs on the Justice 2 Committee considered the proposals on Tuesday.
