 The number of migrant workers in Glasgow is unknown |
A "significant number" of migrant workers have arrived in Glasgow but there is "insufficient information" on numbers, according to a council report. Councillors in Glasgow were due to consider contributing �30,000 to research the number of migrant workers in the city.
The report stated that there is "clearly a need to obtain better information" about migrant workers.
It said many are not registered and are living in crowded conditions.

Migrant workers started to arrive in Glasgow in 2004 from A8 countries following EU expansion.
A8 countries include the Czech Republic, Estonia, Hungary, Latvia, Lithuania, Poland, Slovakia and Slovenia.
The council report said: "There have been examples of migrant workers paying unscrupulous agents for accommodation and work who receive neither."
A significant number of children from Slovakia and Poland are enrolling in Glasgow schools.
In 2005, 514 foreign national children enrolled in Glasgow. Of that number, 141 were from A8 countries.
The council was due to decide whether to research the number of migrant workers.
It was also considering the provision of a welcome pack for EU nationals arriving in the city.
