The housing association hopes wind turbines cut energy costs |
A pilot project in Glasgow could see mini wind turbines installed on homes to save housing association tenants money on their energy bills. North Glasgow Housing Association is hoping to install the Windsave system on homes, including tower blocks, and its own offices to tackle fuel poverty.
Funding of 22,000 is in place for the pilot project and the first turbine could be installed within months.
The landlord said it was confident it would deliver environmental benefits.
Robert Tamburrini, director of North Glasgow Housing Association, said: "We are confident that if this project gets off the ground it will bring considerable benefits to our tenants and the environment.
"The project is still in its early stages but among other things it would enable us to tackle fuel poverty by reducing the cost of electricity.
"This would have a positive impact on tenants' lives."
A "number of technical difficulties" must be ironed out before the project gets the go-ahead.
