The show will feature music from artists including Calvin Harris |
A major new music and dance show is to be premiered in Edinburgh on Hogmanay before touring across Scotland. Off Kilter will showcase the country's eclectic dance traditions, and will include new work by choreographers Mark Morris and Ashley Page. Music by Martyn Bennett and Calvin Harris will also be featured. The £343,000 cost of staging the show and its subsequent tour is being met from the Scottish Government's £6m Expo Fund. The fund provides cash help for all 12 of the capital's festivals. The announcement of the new show comes in the same week that the city council announced plans to scale down their street party celebrations because of a drop in sponsorship. Culture Minister Michael Russell said: "Dance is an intrinsic part of Scotland's cultural identity. Off Kilter combines traditional Highland, ballet, hip-hop, Indian classical and contemporary dance - creating a spectacular showcase of styles that are alive and kicking in Scotland today."
