Marathon man Izzard scales peak

The comedian will scale Arthur's seat in the capital for charity

Comedian and actor Eddie Izzard has visited Edinburgh as part of an attempt to run more than 1,000 miles across the UK for charity.

Izzard, 47, who has completed about 600 miles so far as part of his Sport Relief challenge Eddie IZ Running, scaled the city's Arthur's Seat.

The comedy star set off from Trafalgar Square in London last month in an attempt to complete a "mega-marathon".

He aims to run 30 marathons in 30 days for Sports Relief 2010.

The comic is updating fans using his Twitter page and posting pictures of each leg of the challenge.

He is also being accompanied by a camera crew which is filming a documentary.

The comedian wrote on his website: "I had always wanted to do a big physical running challenge, and this seemed a great way to do it and also raise money to help Africa and the poorest countries in the world as well as projects that Sport Relief fund in the UK.

During his campaign, Izzard has been advised by Olympic experts.

He added: "I told them I wanted to try to run around the whole of the UK.

"London to Cardiff to Belfast to Edinburgh and back to London, running through as many parts of the UK that lie in between our four capitals.

"They said great. You're nuts.

"I said yes but that never hurt."

Sport Relief is a campaign to raise money through sporting events which is then spent by Comic Relief to help vulnerable people in the UK and across some of the world's poorest countries.
