Club boss on drink drive charge

Angelo Massone is the chairman of Livingston Football Club

The chairman of Livingston Football Club has appeared in court charged with being drunk in charge of a car.

The charge alleges Angelo Massone, 37, was in charge of the car in Edinburgh's Bonnington Road, on 29 November last year.

He maintained his plea of not guilty to having 59 microgrammes of alcohol in his breath per 100 millilitres. The legal limit is 35 microgrammes.

A trial date was fixed for 13 August with an interim hearing on 30 July.

Solicitor Graeme Clark, representing Mr Massone, told Sheriff James Farrell at Edinburgh Sheriff Court there had been a change of agents and his firm had only taken instructions from Mr Massone on Tuesday.

This was a second hearing, he said, Mr Massone not having had an interpreter on the first occasion.

Mr Clark requested a new trial date, explaining that a vital defence witness was in Italy.

There was no objection from the Crown to the defence motion.
