Annie Lennox was to speak about Aids at the Holyrood event |
Pop star Annie Lennox said she was "hugely disappointed" to pull out of her appearance at the Scottish Parliament's Festival of Politics. Holyrood bosses said Ms Lennox was unable to travel for health reasons. The 53-year-old singer had been due to appear at the festival next week to speak about her involvement in the fight against HIV/Aids in Africa. Reports said the star was struck by a crippling back spasm at an Aids charity conference in Mexico City. The former Eurythmics singer was said to have emerged in a wheelchair from her homeward flight. Speaking from London, the singer said: "I am hugely disappointed not to be able to attend the Festival of Politics this year as it was something I was looking forward to immensely. "Once I am back on my feet, it will be my imperative to come back up to
Edinburgh at the earliest opportunity." Scottish Parliament Presiding Officer Alex Fergusson wished Ms Lennox well. He said: "For decades, Annie Lennox has put the health of women in Africa at the heart of her work. "Whilst our Festival will naturally miss her, it is only right she is able to concentrate on her own health for a time. We wish Annie
well."
