The man in charge of the Edinburgh Fringe said business at the festival's box office was "brisk" despite widespread problems with ticketing. Sales from the Fringe box office were suspended again on Tuesday, as systems failed to cope with the backlog caused by previous problems. Fringe director Jon Morgan said the box office was now "open on all channels". The Fringe officially begins on Monday but many shows are already staging preview performances. The three-week long Fringe festival will feature 31,320 performances of 2,088 shows in 247 venues. Mr Morgan said a new ticketing system had been introduced this year to deal with the "complicated" event. The entire booking system collapsed on the first day of sales at the start of June. Ticket sales did not begin until a full week after they were due to start and soon a backlog of 150,000 tickets sparked concern that people would not get to see shows. Last week, the Fringe sent out more than 100,000 tickets but phone and in person bookings were suspended frequently in order to make changes to the system. Mr Morgan said: "We are open on all channels - people are buying tickets across the web, across the phone, across the counters - and also at venues across the city. "There are thousands of people buying tickets and collecting their tickets and getting to their shows."
