Edinburgh City Council is swapping from bottles to tap water |
Bottled water is no longer to be served to Edinburgh councillors during meetings following an environmental move by the local authority. From now on, politicians are likely to drink tap water served to them in jugs. The move comes after councillor Robert Aldridge's motion for the crackdown on bottled water was passed at a full council meeting on Thursday. Last year councillors and officials drank about 4,300 bottles at a cost to taxpayers of more than 2,500. Liberal Democrat environment leader Mr Aldridge, said: "Our aim is to reduce, re-use and recycle - as a council it is important that we set the right example."
