Keira Knightley will launch the Edinburgh Film Festival premiere |
Keira Knightley and Sienna Miller will bring Hollywood glamour to the launch of this summer's Edinburgh International Film Festival. The pair are starring in the Dylan Thomas biopic, The Edge of Love, which will be screened at the opening of the festival in June. They will join director John Maybury for the premiere on 18 June. Penned by Knightley's playwright mother Sharman Macdonald, The Edge of Love stars Matthew Rhys and Cillian Murphy. The film charts the lives of two women connected by poet Dylan Thomas, played by Rhys. Knightley portrays Vera Phillips, childhood sweetheart of Dylan. He goes on to marry Caitlin MacNamara, played by Miller. Mr Maybury said: "I am thrilled and honoured to have the film at the Edinburgh Film Festival." EIFF artistic director Hannah McGill said she "adored" the film. She said: "I couldn't be happier to be opening this most auspicious festival with this utterly seductive and fascinating film, which stars some of the most charismatic young performers in the business, and affirms John Maybury as one of our most important directors. "It's a film that I personally adore, and opening with it is the perfect expression of our commitment to intelligent, impassioned, exciting new film-making." The Edge Of Love will open in London on 20 June before being released nationwide on 27 June. The full EIFF programme will be announced on 7 May.
