Drug squad and road policing officers have been teaming up |
A crackdown on dealers as they traffic drugs around Fife has led to dozens of arrests and vehicle seizures, police have said. Fife Constabulary has reported 43 people to prosecutors and seized 32 vehicles in the past six months as part of Operation Fibre.
Overall, crime detection in Fife for the six months also reached an all-time high, at 53% of recorded crime.
The number of crimes over the period fell by 11% from 15,255 to 13,554.
Operation Fibre was a joint drugs squad and road policing operation, which targeted drug dealers on the roads.
Chief Constable Peter Wilson said: "In the area of tackling crime, we have made significant drugs seizures recently, underlining the message that Fife Police will crack down hard on those whose trade is human misery."
On the drop in recorded crime, the chief constable added: "Over the past month alone, we have seen a slight decrease in both serious and minor assaults, and we are determined this downturn continues over the busy festive period, one of the most testing times for police officers.
"Alcohol is too often the catalyst behind assaults and we will again be highlighting a responsible drinking message as part of our coming campaign for the festive season."
Anti-social behaviour also fell by 13% in the first six months of 2007, according to the performance figures.
The force said that the use of rapid response CCTV cameras in an area of Kirkcaldy, bought by Fife Council, had seen anti-social behaviour fall by 66%.
