Child 'sex slaves' in Edinburgh
Dana Fowley
Dana Fowley exposed a paedophile ring which included her mother
The fiance of the woman who exposed the shocking details of a paedophile ring operating in Edinburgh has said the victims were treated as "sex slaves".

Dana Fowley, now, 27, waived her anonymity to speak out against Morris Petch, John O'Flaherty and her mother Caroline Dunsmore.

She said she was "happy" at the steps she had taken to get them imprisoned.

Ms Fowley's fiance Paul Kernachan said Dunsmore's crimes "could only be matched by Myra Hindley".

He said the victims of the paedophile ring were "treated like animals".

Petch, 50, was convicted in May of raping two girls in the 1990s. On Friday he was sentenced to life with a minimum of 12 years in jail.

'Flicker of care'

Petch was a friend of William King, who had orchestrated the abuse of the youngsters.

He had been married to Dunsmore, but died in 1995.

Dunsmore, 43, was sentenced in June to 12 years in prison for her part in the gang rape of her young daughter and another girl.

John O'Flaherty, 50, was earlier jailed for 13 years.

Mr Kernachan said: "Dana says she loves her mother and I can understand that, and I love Dana for that, but also the fact of the matter is Dana also stated her mother should never be released from prison.

"Dana told her mother, 'When my children fall it gives me a shiver to my stomach, yet I fell many times in life and you never showed a flicker of care and this is the reason I have to go to the police and give evidence against you - in order to bring down this massive paedophile ring'.

"Caroline Dunsmore's crimes can only be matched by Myra Hindley. They were treated like animals, they became sex slaves in Edinburgh."

Ms Fowley said: "I think my life is becoming normal because I'm happy at the steps I've taken.

"I see a future and right now that is to put these paedophiles in jail, until they are all gone and in jail."

She said her children were the reason she had waived her anonymity.

Ms Fowley has signed a book deal for her autobiography with a major publisher.

She is to become a guide, mentor and advocate of charity help group, The Phoenix, to help victims of sexual abuse.
