Scotty is due to be "born" in Linlithgow in the year 2222

Linlithgow was one of four Scottish towns claiming to be the home of Scotty, famous for beaming colleagues up to the Starship Enterprise.

The West Lothian town's claim was eventually confirmed by Star Trek script writer Dorothy C Fontana.

Linlithgow will now hold the exhibition to mark the second anniversary of the death of Scotty actor James Doohan.

The James Doohan Memorial Exhibition will open its doors to the public in Linlithgow's Annet House museum on Friday 3 August.

The new exhibition will tell the story of the life of Canadian-born Mr Doohan before, during and after his appearances in the Star Trek television series and spin-off movies.

It will feature family photographs and personal items which have been loaned by the Doohan family, initially for a three-year period.

Also featured will be Mr Doohan's own props, Star Trek models and personal memorabilia.

Mr Doohan's widow Wende and his son Chris plan to visit the memorial exhibition in September to unveil a commemorative plaque.

The event area has been inspired by the Starship Enterprise

The exhibition area has been designed by Andy Pepperell from the Edinburgh Star Trek Association, and has been inspired by the 1970s look of the original Starship Enterprise.

Councillor Martyn Day, who represents Linlithgow on West Lothian Council, said: "I am delighted that this exciting new exhibition is set to open to the public.

"I am confident that it will prove extremely popular and help to attract many more visitors to Linlithgow and West Lothian, including Star Trek enthusiasts from all over the world."

According to Star Trek legend, Scotty was born in Linlithgow in 2222 and his parents still lived there when he started serving on the Enterprise.

Mr Doohan died in August 2005 at the age of 85.

The other towns which had claimed Scotty as their own were Aberdeen, Elgin and Edinburgh.
