 The Bupa Great Edinburgh Run starts in The Meadows |
The Bupa Great Edinburgh Run is set to attract a record number of participants, according to organisers. The 10km road race on Sunday, 6 May has already attracted 8,500 participants, with 10,000 runners expected by the closing date on Wednesday, 25 April.
Runners will descend on the city from every corner of the UK and every postcode in Scotland, bar the Outer Hebrides.
Entrants will congregate on the start line in The Meadows.
Among the thousands of runners taking part will be several well known faces, including former Scotland Rugby captain Gavin Hastings and Scotland record try scorer Scott Hastings.
Star of the stage Joe McFadden, who played Caractacus Potts in the stage production of Chitty Chitty Bang Bang, will be on the starting line.
Distance runner Liz McColgan is running for Leukaemia Research, while BBC news presenter Bill Turnbull and GMTV's resident soap expert Tina Baker are running for Bupa's nominated charity, Marie Curie Cancer Care.
