YouTube star home from Hollywood
Mairi Duncan

An unlikely star of American television is back at her Dalkeith home in Midlothian after appearing on a US chat show.

Mairi Duncan was flown to Hollywood to take part in the Jimmy Kimmell Live programme after its host saw internet footage of her fall through a trapdoor.

Nearly 10 years ago the barmaid stepped backwards into an opening in the floor which led to the basement 14ft below.

The 30-year-old appeared on the show on 18 January with actor Rupert Everett.

The bubble will eventually burst but they say 15 minutes of fame and I've had two weeks of it so its been great, absolutely fantastic

The moment was recorded on a CCTV system, and eventually the images appeared on the video-sharing website YouTube.

After they were spotted by Jimmy Kimmell he decided he wanted the mother-of-one on his show, and last week she was flown to Hollywood to be interviewed.

Speaking from her home on Wednesday after arriving back from the trip, she said: "It has just been an amazing experience, really good. I had my own dressing room, which was fantastic, my hair done as well as my make-up.

"The minute I sat on the chair (on the Jimmy Kimmell show) the nerves just went, I started speaking and it was fine, it wasn't as nerve racking as I thought it would be."

She added: "The bubble will eventually burst but they say 15 minutes of fame and I've had two weeks of it so it's been great, absolutely fantastic."

The Unicorn Pub where Ms Duncan had her fall has been closed for some time, awaiting redevelopment.

She escaped with just cuts and bruises after the incident in 1997.

Miss Duncan became a star on the YouTube website after originally appearing on ITV's You've Been Framed.
