Alastair Campbell says people of all ages can take part
Tony Blair's former spin doctor has urged people to sign up for this year's Great Edinburgh Run.

Alastair Campbell has teamed up with Scottish sporting greats Liz McColgan and Gavin Hastings to promote the 10k race on Sunday, 6 May.

About 10,000 runners of all abilities are expected to turn out on the day to raise thousands of pounds for charity.

Edinburgh Council and EventScotland have donated funds to the Bupa-sponsored event up to 2012.

Mr Campbell, who hopes to take part in the race to raise funds for the Leukaemia Research Fund, said the race was open to everyone.

He said: "I love these mass participation events. They're just very important fundraising streams, added to which they're great fun.

"The more that people of all ages get out to do runs like this, the better.

"I very rarely meet people who do events like this and don't enjoy it."

Marie Curie Cancer Care is the nominated charity for the 2007 run, although participants can seek sponsorship for any charity of their choosing.
