Earlier start for major festival
Jonathan Mills
Jonathan Mills is the new Edinburgh International Festival director
Edinburgh's International Festival is to begin two days earlier from next year, it has been announced.

The festival's new director Jonathan Mills, who took up his post on Monday, believes the extra weekend will boost the event's profile.

It will still end on a Sunday and will continue to run for a week after the Fringe finishes - a result of a change of dates almost a decade ago.

The programme for the August/ September event will be announced in the spring.
